Importance of Meditation in a Student’s Life

In Thirunavaya, Balmandir had a child, who joined us when she was in 5th standard. She was very good in sports and represented even at district and state levels. This enabled her to get an admission in one of the revered and reputed colleges run by Missionaries in Trichur. It was thru’ sports quota that she got her admission.

The father of the Missionary who was also the principal really discouraged her from joining the college because most of the students from the institution came from affluent family and selection criteria were very high. All students were English medium and they would have to join private tuition to maintain their standard. They were afraid that she would not cope-up because she had limited marks in SSC and she was from Malayalam medium. It would have affected result since the college was looking for A+ marks.

But she was insistent. She pursued her studies and sports with commitment and Integrity. She got second rank and also brought lot of prestigious awards to the college at state level competition. She was humble in spite of all these and co-operative and supportive to all the children.

The Father of the college invited her parents. He appreciated them and also wanted to know  how they were able to upbring the child with such high values. They replied that the child was with Balamandir of Warrier Foundation for the last 6 years. My sister, Thilakam Chechi, who is taking care of Balmandir was surprised. She also wanted to know how she transformed to achieve this high level of achievements.

She told that “while Madhavan uncle visits Balamandir, he always insisted for doing meditation. Then she started doing and became a practice in her life. Silence and stillness within her gave a lot of freedom and witnessing capacity. Initially she was depressed but slowly she could come out due to Meditation and Yoga.

This implies the need for a change in education system with yoga, meditation and philosophical values of scriptures in addition to the present pattern.

Warrier Foundation is highly committed to it.  We have 40 Veda students in our residential  school. They have to appear for the exam of Ujjain University. We are also giving equivalent formal education thru’ open university to appear for 10th standard CBSE board syllabus. They are getting proficiency in English, Computer literacy and other fields of knowledge. They will become future citizens with spiritual values. and social commitment.
