Environment

We, at Warrier Foundation, strongly believe that nature is our mother, and she has to be nurtured the way we do for our family. Under this philosophy, we have partnered with environmental NGOs to conduct awareness and action campaigns to sensitize people about the skew in balance we are causing through our actions. In fact, we have about 50 acres of land that we have brought under sustainable cultivation. Within this we have 5,000kg of monthly organic produce of assorted vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, cauliflower, chillies, jackfruit, mangoes, tapioca), 5,000 banana plantains and 4,000+ coconut trees. We encourage residents of the local communitiesto use these in order to be able to access fresh, healthy and wholesome produce for their families.

We are also very passionate about harnessing renewable energy and resources wherever we can, especially in the community that we are building under our Free Housing initiative and the Balamandirams we have set up. Towards this, we have installed two solar-powered centres, one biogas unit for renewable energy and three centres harvesting rainwater across our projects.

Energy self-sufficiency

As a first step towards promoting the usage of alternative sources of energy and reducing dependence on traditional sources, we have built a solar energy system at the Balamandiram in Navi Mumbai. As a result, we enjoy uninterrupted supply of electricity even when the rest of the city is grappling with power cuts during summer. This enables us to carry out our activities including computer classes without any interruption.

Bio gas plant & grow your own

The Balamandiram at Thirunavaya is equipped with a biogas plant that helps us to match our energy needs within the home. This home has always been self-sufficient in terms of vegetables, and with the newly set-up compost pit we hope to match our requirements for organic fertilizer also in-house.
